President Donald Trump announced that he recommended Senator Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster as the temporary replacement for the vacant Senate seat.
“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!” Trump posted to Truth Social on Monday morning.

Under South Carolina law, the governor has authority to appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) term, which ends in January, after the senator died on Saturday.
According to McMaster’s office, he will hold a press conference at 4:00 p.m. ET on Monday in the Governor’s Office of the South Carolina Statehouse to announce the Senate appointment.
“Governor Henry McMaster will hold a Statehouse press conference to reflect on the life and service of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and announce an appointment to fill the vacancy created by the senator’s passing,” his office stated.
In November, South Carolina voters will elect a permanent senator to fill the seat, with the special Republican primary set for August 11th.
