President Donald Trump announced he will be asking the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) for a rehearing of the birthright citizenship case, Trump v. Barbara.

In a ruling handed down at the end of June, the Supreme Court found that children born in the U.S. are “subject to the jurisdiction” thereof, even if their parents were unlawfully or temporarily present in the country.

Trump has been critical of the court ruling, and in a Wednesday Truth Social post, he said he would seek a rehearing for the pivotal case.

“I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY. This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision,” Trump said.

To hammer in his point, the commander-in-chief pointed to the practice of “birth tourism,” traveling to a country specifically to give birth and gain citizenship for the baby.

He appeared to reference the recent case in Texas, where Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) launched an investigation into a hospital accused of advertising “birth packages” on billboards in Mexico that allegedly encouraged foreign nationals to have their children in Texas in order to gain U.S. citizenship.

“Signs and Billboards are being put up all over our Southern Border, and Mexico, advertising BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP, with ‘Deliveries starting at $4000.’ Likewise, similar signs going up all over our Country. Billions of Dollars will be illegally made by this SCAM, with Citizenship going to anyone willing to pay. It will be, by far, the number one way of becoming a citizen, and then the entire family will be allowed to follow. Not sustainable,” Trump said.

“NOBODY SAW THIS COMING!!! AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP IS NOT FOR SALE! In fact, that is a crime, and therefore the Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong,” he continued.

Rules of the court dictate that a petition for a rehearing can be filed within 25 days after the decision, though a majority of the court has to grant it.
