Planned Parenthood is funneling more than $47 million into the midterm elections this November to combat Republican candidates after the party supported cutting off taxpayer funds for abortion clinics.
Politico first reported on Wednesday that the nearly record-setting sum was invested by Planned Parenthood Votes, an independent super Political Action Committee (PAC) affiliated with Planned Parenthood.
The PAC will fund advertisements and voter-outreach initiatives targeting Republicans across 10 House races in seven states and oppose GOP incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) and possible GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers of Michigan, the outlet reported.
Specific targets include Representatives Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.), Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), Gabe Evans (R-Colo.), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), David Valadao (R-Calif.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Penn.), Ryan Mackenzie (R-Penn.) and Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.).
“We’re in the fight of our lives,” Planned Parenthood Votes Executive Director Sarah Standiford told Politico, vowing to defeat lawmakers who voted against the organization.
On last year’s Fourth of July, President Donald Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) after Republicans in Congress successfully pushed the sweeping measure through. The bill restricted Planned Parenthood and some other providers of abortion from billing Medicaid for several types of treatments.
Though the organization was allowed this week to resume billing Medicaid for certain non-abortion treatments, the funding issue was still a blow, forcing it to cut down on its catalogue of services and, in some cases, close locations. The Kaiser Family Foundation reported that it closed or consolidated 57 health centers across 20 states since January 2025.
This is the group’s second-largest midterm election investment, following its spending in 2022, which totaled $50 million.
However, Pro-Life advocates have also opened their purses ahead of the midterms, where the abortion debate is expected to be a top issue.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and its affiliated Women Speak Out PAC announced in November an $80 million effort to elect pro-life candidates, promising to reach over 10.5 million voters in House and Senate elections.
“Republicans simply cannot win without their pro-life base, especially in midterm elections when overall turnout drops,” SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser stated at the time.
“The party that once claimed the position of ‘safe, legal and rare’ is now the party of abortion anytime, anywhere, paid for by the taxpayer,” she added. “The Democrats have become unrecognizable as they continue to embrace second and third trimester abortions and won’t even outlaw the killing of babies who survive failed abortions. We must retain our pro-life majorities in both houses to stop this extremism and prevent the abortion lobby from clawing back $500 million in taxpayer funding for their own political machine.”
