The airport less than five miles from the Mar-a-Lago Club has been officially renamed as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
“Effective today, Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” the transit hub posted to its X account on Thursday.
The upgrade follows a law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) in March, paving the way for the historic airport transformation.
The airport noted that it is currently in “transition mode” as physical signs, digital channels and other places are updated to reflect the new name.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) posted to social media that the three-letter identifier for the airport had been changed effective as of Thursday from PBI to DJT.
In its “Frequently Asked Questions” page regarding the name change, DJT explained that although the FAA’s locational identifier (LID) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) identifier had already been changed, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is set to officially change on August 18th.
The IATA code is used mostly “by airlines and passengers for ticketing, baggage handling and flight information displays,” as where the other identifiers “are used primarily by pilots, air traffic control and aviation operations.”
In video footage provided by the White House, road signs can be seen directing travelers to the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
According to the transit hub, Florida allocated $2.75 million toward the name-changing project, which the Palm Beach County Department of Airports estimated at about $5.5 million. The airport noted that the remaining funding will come from “the Department of Airports’ operating budget and capital investment program.”
“This includes updating airport signage, wayfinding, branding, technology systems, printed materials and other operation items over time,” the airport said. “No local property tax dollars are used to operate Palm Beach International Airport.”
President Trump’s son, Eric Trump, celebrated the name change, thanking Florida officials for the move.
“There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor. As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass,” Eric posted to social media on Thursday.
“Congratulations Dad — I’m happy to have played a big role in making this happen,” he added.
