Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected prison release date has been moved up again, marking the fifth time it has been adjusted since his October 2025 sentencing after he was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
Though he was sentenced to 50 months in prison and fined $500,000, Combs’ escaped his much more serious charges including a racketeering charge and two sex trafficking counts. With an initial release date of May 8, 2028, the date was later pushed to June, 4, 2028.
The timeline update continues a pattern that has been occurring since he was indicted. Earlier this year, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) moved the date to April 25, 2028 and again to April 15, 2028. As of Tuesday, Combs is now scheduled to be released February 23, 2028.
While the FBOP has not publicly disclosed the reason behind the latest shift, the 56-year-old has reportedly been participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation program during his time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Nonetheless, the revised release date comes as Combs continues to challenge the conviction that sent him to prison. His defense team has argued that prosecutors sought to criminalize aspects of his personal life, while acknowledging that he could at times be violent.
“According to Combs, the district court should have closed its eyes to how he carried out his Mann Act offenses and abused his victims — violently beating them, threatening them, lying to them and plying them with drugs,” prosecutors wrote in the court filing.
In December 2025, Combs’ attorneys formally appealed both his conviction and sentence, arguing that the sexual encounters the case revolved around were consensual and that the punishment imposed by the court was excessive.
Notably, the appeal remains pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which means that even as Combs’ projected release date continues to move, the legal battle technically remains unresolved.
Combs was first arrested in September 2024 and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation for purposes of prostitution.
