A 17-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed in the neck in broad daylight in the United Kingdom (UK).
Armed officers responded to the scene on Wood Street in Brierfield, near Nelson, England, on Friday afternoon and arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the attack.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Lancashire Police described the suspect as a British man of Pakistani heritage, noting that the victim is understood to be of the same heritage.
“We were called at 3:06 p.m. today to Wood Street, Brierfield, to a report of stabbing. It was reported that a 17-year-old girl had been assaulted and suffered a stab injury to her neck,” said a Lancashire Police spokesperson.
Fortunately, officials confirmed the teenager’s injuries were not life-threatening. In a later update, the force said: “After receiving treatment and care, she has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home with the support of her family.
“There are no further outstanding suspects in relation to this investigation and there is currently no evidence to suggest the attack was racially motivated,” said a police spokesperson.
Lancashire Police have urged those who may have witnessed the incident, or who possess relevant closed-circuit television (CCTV) or doorbell camera footage, to come forward immediately.
Acknowledging the impact on the neighborhood, the spokesperson added, “We know that this will cause alarm in the local community and extra patrols will be in the area this evening to provide reassurance.”
