Renderings for the redevelopment project of the iconic Pennsylvania Station in New York City were revealed, showing an audacious effort to update and enhance the transit hub. This project marks the latest effort by the Trump administration to modernize and beautify public infrastructure across the country.

According to a Monday Amtrak article, the renderings were unveiled by United States Department of Transportation (USDT) Secretary Sean Duffy, Special Advisor to the Amtrak Board Andy Byford and Penn Transformation Partners (PTP) — the master developer for the project led by construction firms Halmar and Skanska.

“The Golden Age of Transportation is coming thanks to President Trump. He had a vision to transform this dirty, falling-apart station in the middle of his hometown into a state-of-the-art transit hub that millions can enjoy for generations to come,” Duffy said.

“These renderings provide the public with further proof that the Trump Administration is committed to delivering transformational results for all Americans,” he continued.

USDT took control of the transformation project from the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in April 2025, with the secretary providing Amtrak with $43 million in federal grant funding to jumpstart the schedule, and investing an additional $200 million in May 2026, Amtrak explained. It noted that funding for the project is primarily through federal grants to Amtrak, though it includes a mixture of both private and public financing.

The design features a square-shaped structure surrounding the cylindrical Madison Square Garden arena. Amtrak noted that the project includes constructing a grand Eighth Avenue entrance, replacing cramped walkways with open concourses, expanding track capacity and other renovations.

Among the provided images were before pictures and after renderings of the station. The provided picture of the concourse shows an underwhelming hallway with columns blocking much of the view. The rendered image reveals a large train hall with a more open layout.

The transformation is intended to improve the visitor experience in the station, which is the busiest rail hub in North America and boasts more than 600,000 daily commuters, while also providing advancements for both efficiency and safety, according to Amtrak.
