United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of “self-defense strikes” conducted by American forces against Iran in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.
Targets struck encompassed “Iranian air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM confirmed in a Tuesday statement, saying “precision munitions” were used “from U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets.”
“The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters,” the command stated.
In an earlier Tuesday announcement, CENTCOM said the strikes, beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET at President Donald Trump’s direction, were “in response to yesterday’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.”
On Wednesday morning, the president took to Truth Social to highlight the condition of Iran’s military capabilities.
“Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore — They have been completely defeated. Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!!” Trump said.
He further emphasized the consequences for the Islamic Republic not entering into a permanent peace deal with the United States.
“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!” the commander-in-chief stated.
In a subsequent post, Trump also purported that the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports continues to be effective.
“The Fake News Media refuses to report how EFFECTIVE the U.S. Naval BLOCKADE is, the most successful Blockade in the history of Naval Warfare. NOTHING GETS THROUGH unless we want it to. IT IS A STEEL WALL!” he said. “Iran is doing ZERO business, not paying their military, or any of their bills, and quickly becoming a FAILED NATION! Lots of oil is getting out.”
Tuesday’s strikes follow the downing of an American Apache helicopter that was patrolling off the Oman coast. CENTCOM confirmed the two crew members were safely rescued hours after the crash.
