The crew of a United States Army AH-64 Apache helicopter was safely rescued after the aircraft went down near the coast of Oman, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced.

The two crew members were rescued by American forces at 7:33 p.m. ET on Monday, within about two hours of the crash, CENTCOM said in a Tuesday morning statement.

President Donald Trump confirmed to reporters hours after the incident that the crew was safe.

“The pilots are fine,” the commander-in-chief said. “Nobody injured.”

CENTCOM stated that the cause of the crash, which occurred while the crew was patrolling regional waters, is under investigation.

According to a May 13^th report from the Congressional Research Service, 42 aircraft had been lost or damaged since the onset of hostilities with Iran on February 28^th, though subsequent events would impact this number. The report showed that the majority of losses were unmanned drones.

A number of manned aircraft have also been destroyed, including a fighter jet that was shot down over Iran, leading to extensive, and now-famous, rescue operations for the pilots.
