The Department of War has identified the United States soldier who was killed in a “training-related incident” in Iraq.

On Sunday, 26-year-old Sergeant Devin A. Seibel died at Erbil Airbase in Iraq. According to a War Department press release, he passed away while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led coalition combating ISIS.

The department stated that Seibel, who is from Robinson, Texas, belonged to the Air Ambulance Company, 2^nd Battalion, 4^th Combat Aviation Brigade of Fort Carson, Colorado.

U.S. Army Central and Third Army reported that the training activity was conducted alongside the British Army, who also lost a service member.

The British Ministry of Defence identified 29-year-old Lance Corporal James Freeman, as the soldier who died in a “routine military training activity” accident while deployed on Operation SHADER in Iraq.

“Our thoughts are with Lance Corporal Freeman’s family, friends, and Regiment at this devastating time,” the ministry stated on X Wednesday.

Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs, which is located just north of Fort Carson, acknowledged Seibel’s death, saying the community is mourning his loss alongside his “family, loved ones, and fellow soldiers.”

“Sgt. Seibel answered the call to serve our nation with courage, dedication, and selflessness. We are deeply grateful for his service and sacrifice,” Mobolade posted to X on Thursday.
