Several Americans are reportedly injured following an Iranian missile strike in Kuwait as President Donald Trump considers a deal to extend the ceasefire.
Kuwaiti air forces intercepted a Fateh-110 ballistic missile, but falling debris from the interception struck the Ali Al Salem air base, according to Bloomberg, citing a source with direct knowledge of the attack. The air base, located 40 miles northwest of Kuwait City, serves as a major hub for U.S. military operations in the Persian Gulf and hosts both American and allied coalition forces.
The debris fields destroyed one U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone and severely damaged a second, totaling at least $30 million in asset losses. Five Americans suffered minor injuries, including active-duty personnel and defense contractors.
The strike comes after the U.S. military carried out two rounds of what it described as defensive strikes against Iranian assets earlier this week. The two sides remain sharply divided on several key issues, including long-term control of the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump said he plans to make a “final determination” following a huddle with his national security team Friday on a possible 60-day extension of the ceasefire, which would aim to permanently reopen the Strait of Hormuz and arrange further negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear material.
Iran has been known for its repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the strait, resulting in the blockade of the waterway, which typically carries approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil trade. The U.S. has pressured Tehran to cooperate in peace talks by enforcing a naval blockade, turning away dozens of ships attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports.
Although the conflict had become relatively dormant in recent weeks, the U.S. currently maintains a significantly elevated military presence across the region. So far, 13 U.S. service members have died, and more than 400 have been wounded during the conflict, known as Operation Epic Fury, according to the latest reporting.
Additionally, a Congressional Research Service report states that at least 42 U.S. military aircraft — predominantly unmanned drones — have been lost or damaged since the beginning of the hostilities.
Because the attack occurred within the past 24 hours, the full extent and exact number of injuries remain fluid as military officials continue to assess the base.
