President Donald Trump blasted former First Lady Jill Biden after she admitted she thought her husband, former President Joe Biden, was having a stroke during a 2024 presidential debate.
“Jill Biden is now out there finally admitting that she did NOT know what went wrong with Sleepy Joe during our spectacular, and highly rated, 2024 Presidential Debate, where Joe was not exactly performing to the highest level of debate standards,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
“She said that she thought he was having a ‘stroke,’ and various other really bad things, and yet never rushed onto the stage to help her troubled husband, as any good wife would do,” he continued. “The only thing she failed to mention was how well I was doing prior to his near total collapse.”
“In other words, as many have asked, did my strong performance in that debate cause him to plain and simple ‘choke,’ leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause? Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!” Trump’s post concluded.
In an interview with CBS News on Wednesday, Jill said she was not horrified but frightened watching her husband on the night of the debate.
“I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since, never,” she said. “I mean, as I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my god, he’s having a stroke.’”
During the CNN presidential debate, Biden stumbled while answering a question about his administration’s record-high border crossings.
“When he [Trump] was president, he was taking … separating babies from their mo-mothers, putting them in cages, making sure they were … the families were separated. That’s not the right way to go. What I’ve done since I’ve changed the law … what’s happened … I’ve changed it in a way that now you’re in a situation where they’re 40% fewer people coming across the border legally. It’s better than when he left office and I’m going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the … the … the … the total initiative relative to what we can do with more border patrol and more asylum officers,” Biden said.
When asked his response, Trump famously said, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said, either.”
Although the former president had become known for gaffes for years by that point, the 2024 debate was the tipping point that sparked widespread concern about his age and health and ultimately resulted in his dropping out of the election.
Trump continues to point to his historic 2024 debate performance as an overwhelming triumph. The 47th president has repeatedly noted that his commanding presence on stage accelerated Biden’s near-total political collapse, forcing the public to confront Biden’s severe mental and physical decline.
The second Trump administration probed the Biden administration for months due to accusations from Trump that his aides worked to conceal his declining condition during his single term.
