President Donald Trump held a Cabinet meeting at the White House, changing plans after previous reports that the Cabinet would convene at Camp David.
Trump began the meeting on Wednesday by highlighting the successes of his administration since he retook office in 2025, including zero U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) releases at the southern border for about a year.
He also mentioned that he secured “most favored nation” drug pricing, striking deals with several pharmaceutical giants to offer prescription medications at a fraction of the cost on his TrumpRx website. He declared that the GOP should win the midterm elections in November on “that alone.”
Trump also praised Vice President JD Vance for his work to investigate fraud across the country.
“Under the leadership of Vice President JD Vance — very proud of this — the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud is waging war on waste, fraud, theft and abuse like nobody’s ever seen before,” Trump said.
In March, Trump signed an executive order (EO) to formally create the fraud-centered task force, tapping Vance to lead the effort. This followed investigations from social media independent journalist Nick Shirley, who drew national attention to fraud schemes in Minnesota that took advantage of state-funded social programs without supplying the vital services they claimed to provide.
Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced criminal charges against 15 Minnesota defendants who are charged with defrauding the most vulnerable people in their communities to embezzle more than $90 million in taxpayer funding from Medicaid and Medicare programs.
Vance added that the task force also uncovered student loan fraud, housing benefits fraud, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud and more.
“Fraud is fundamentally a crime with two victims,” Vance explained. “The most obvious victim [is] the American taxpayer. They pay their taxes, they expect the money to go where it should go, and that’s not happening because of the fraudsters. But there are also victims, people that benefit from these programs that don’t exist if we’re not actually taking care of the fraud issue.”
“This is something that will result in a better place for every citizen in this country and save money, a lot of money, and also, it’s the right thing to do for our tax dollars,” added Acting United States Attorney General, who emphasized that a lot of the individuals his department was prosecuting were illegal aliens defrauding the American people.
Trump also extended his gratitude to Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, who announced her resignation on Friday due to her husband’s battle with “an extremely rare form of bone cancer.” Trump called her a “terrific person,” inviting applause from the table of Cabinet members.
“She dramatically reformed the Office of Director of National Intelligence in cutting the staff by 40% and she prevented countless terrorists and cartel members from entering the United States. She exposed mountains of evidence related to the Russia Russia Russia hoax, one of the — probably the greatest hoax in the history of our country … and revoked security clearances of the officials involved and she declassified numerous historic documents of special public interest.”
Finally, Trump asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to speak on the situation in Iran, playing on a running joke that Rubio wears a plethora of hats in his role in the Trump administration.
“You’re all over the place, right?” Trump joked.
Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ position that Iran should never have a nuclear weapon as the “world’s leading sponsor of terrorism.”
He said that the administration, through delegations led by Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, is continuing to negotiate a solution to the conflict. He noted that if diplomacy doesn’t work, the president has “other options” available.
“They want very much to make a deal. So far, they haven’t gotten there. We’re not satisfied with it, but we will be, either that or we’ll have to just finish the job… They’re negotiating on fumes, but we’ll see what happens,” Trump added, speaking of Iran.
