President Donald Trump congratulated Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on his Senate runoff election victory, while also maintaining his friendship with Senator John Cornyn.
Early on Wednesday, following Tuesday’s election, Trump posted to Truth Social about the GOP runoff results.
“Congratulations to Ken Paxton on such a tremendous win, and to John Cornyn for having run a strong and powerful race but, more importantly, having had a truly great career,” the president wrote. “John will remain my friend for a long time to come, as we both watch Ken become a fantastic, common sense Senator, one who is respected by all.”
Paxton secured the Republican nomination with over 63% of the vote to incumbent Cornyn’s 36%.
Trump endorsed Paxton last week, writing on Truth Social that he was “an America First Patriot,” as well as someone who was “extremely loyal” to the MAGA movement.
Following the Republican runoff, Trump also criticized Paxton’s Democrat opponent, James Talarico, a pastor who supports left-wing gender ideology. He compared Talarico to the “Mad Magazine” mascot Alfred E. Neuman and called out his support of mask-wearing through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“His opponent, Alfred E. Neuman, may be the worst TEXAS candidate I have ever seen,” Trump asserted. “A strong Open Borders advocate, he is WEAK ON CRIME, believes there are 6 genders, is insulting to Jesus Christ, will never support the Military, was a big Mask Wearer until recently, and is a Vegan who dislikes meat, not exactly a good way to be if you’re wanting to win an Election in Texas.”
He also mentioned Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), the incumbent who lost to Talarico during the Democrat primary earlier this year.
“Jasmine Crockett, a very low IQ individual, who is no relation to the legendary frontiersman, Davy Crockett, would have been a far better choice for the Dumocrats,” he said.
He concluded his message with a promise to campaign on Paxton’s behalf heading into the general elections in November.
“I will do some nice, big, beautiful rallies for Ken,” Trump added. “Texas, this will be FUN!”
Paxton also thanked Trump for his endorsement during his victory speech Tuesday night.
“When everyone in Washington told him to abandon me and abandon the people of Texas, he didn’t listen. Instead, he gave his complete and total endorsement. President Trump is the leader of our party and his endorsement is the most powerful force in politics,” the nominee said.
Trump later posted to Truth Social screen captures of Fox News reports that each of his endorsements won their elections: Eight for Governor, nine in the U.S. Senate and 101 in the U.S. House of Representatives, for a total of 118 candidates that secured nominations in the primaries after being backed by the president. This demonstrates Trump’s lasting influence on the Republican Party.
