Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he recently underwent treatment for prostate cancer, and kept it quiet for fear that it would be used by Iran for propaganda.
On Friday, Netanyahu, 76, published the results of his annual medical examination, where he disclosed the sensitive information.
“I requested to delay its publication by two months so that it would not be released at the height of the war, in order not to allow the Iranian terror regime to spread even more false propaganda against Israel,” he wrote on X in Hebrew.
In March, rumors swirled online that Netanyahu had died after the claim was aired on Iranian state media. He later filmed himself visiting a café in Jerusalem to disprove the claims.
With the conflict now in an indefinite ceasefire, Netanyahu felt more comfortable coming forward with his news.
He had three core messages to share with the public:
- “Thank God, I am healthy.”
- “I am in excellent physical condition.”
- “I had a minor medical issue with my prostate that was completely treated. Thank God, it’s behind me.”
He explained that over a year ago, he underwent surgery for an enlarged benign prostate, which had been monitored ever since. In his most recent examination, “a tiny spot of less than a centimeter was discovered in the prostate.” This was found to be “a very early stage of a malignant tumor, with no spread or metastases whatsoever.”
The first of two options Netanyahu was given was to “live with it” and monitor it without treatment. The second was to “remove the problem.”
“You already know me,” he stated. “When I’m given information in time about a potential danger, I want to address it immediately.”
“This is true on the national level and also on the personal level,” he added.
The prime minister reported that “no trace” was left of the problem after his “targeted treatment.” His medical report, dated April 20, 2026, says that he received radiation therapy, though it was unclear exactly when this occurred.
“I went to a few short treatments, read a book, and continued working,” he recounted. “The spot disappeared completely.”
He thanked his doctors and treatment teams at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem and urged the citizens of Israel to take care of their health, “get checked, and follow the doctors’ instructions.”
